Saying Goodbye

Duffy — We Miss You AlreadySometimes I take my GTB for granted. I don’t try to, but I do. I know a lot of people take those they love for granted without even thinking about it.

Then, he blows me away with how patient and kind he can be and I am time and again, eternally grateful for him.

Take for example last night:

My family was preparing to say goodbye to our dog Duffy. He’d been a member of our family for about 12 years. He’d been dealing with arthritis and an injury from a raccoon that just wouldn’t heal. Most recently, he’s had other issue (a tumor, etc), so my family decided it would be best for him to be euthanized because he was in a lot of pain.

My poor GTB had to deal with me, my two sisters and my mom crying about Duffy and saying goodbye. He was patient with the tears. I know death is difficult and awkward for most people close to the affected people, compounded with the fact that we were mourning a dog… He was cool and seemingly not-awkward with the dealings of the day. He didn’t roll his eyes and tell me to stop crying, he just held me and let me cry onto his shirt.

My gosh, I am such a lucky girl.

Even in the absense of our beloved Duffy — RIP Duff.
