Congrats, you’re engaged. Now what?

3 Jan

Hooray! Your sweetheart put a beautiful ring on your left hand and professed his love and desire to spend FOREVER with you! How wonderful!

If you’re like a lot of girls, your head is now spinning. A wedding is a huge endeavor, but you don’t have to go it alone (and probably won’t, if your sweetie is willing to help, or if you have parents who are sharing their ideas). If you’re unsure of where to start or what to do first, here are a few ideas and tips.

1. Read up. There are some absolutely fabulous wedding planning guides. Some of my favorites include Simple Stunning Weddings, Bridal Bargains (a must-have if you’re footing the bill yourself), Colin Cowie Wedding Chic, the wonderful The Wedding Book (by the incredible Mindy Weiss) or The Knot Ultimate Wedding Lookbook.

And don’t forget the magazines! Martha Stewart Weddings is chock full of some of the most amazing inspiration and ideas. It’s my favorite. Of course there are dozens of other great wedding-focused magazines – find what works best for you!

2. Go online. There are all sorts of fab websites that can help you gather ideas and navigate what you need to do. A few of my favorites are Once Wed, Green Wedding Shoes, Elizabeth Anne Designs, Ruffled, The Sweetest Occasion, Weddingbee and The Knot.

3. List and bind. If you don’t like lists, I recommend you hire a wedding coordinator. If you love lists, you will be in HEAVEN. There are so many great resources for wedding planning (and list making). Real Simple offers a great Ultimate Checklist, as does Wedding Wire (another great resource)!

This is a great time to buy a binder or folder and start filling it with images that either fit or will help you shape your vision. This will help you keep your plan clear, and also will help you remember details that you want to keep fresh in your head.

Good luck darlings! I’m so excited for you!
